Born in Dublin in 1970, Hansard came to international attention thanks to his role in Alan Parker’s film “The Commitments” , in which he played the part of guitarist Outspan Foster. He subsequently founded the cult band Frames in 1990, becoming one of the most internationally acclaimed and appreciated Irish musicians. During those years, his ambitions towards rock and folk alternated with moments of intimacy and quiet, during which he cultivated his solo career. His first project with Marketa Irglova , The Swell Season , dates back to 2006 and was an immediate success: the album was turned into a film, ‘ Once ‘, which became a small sensation in America, and went on to receive two Grammy nominations for the soundtrack. Two years later, the song ‘ Falling Slowly ‘, featuring Irglova, won the Oscar for Best Original Song for ‘ Once’ . In 2009 he released his last album with The Swell Season.
He subsequently dedicated himself to his solo project, alternating moments with the historic band The Frames. “ Rythm and Repose ” was his first solo studio album (2012), followed three years later by two albums released shortly after each other. With ‘ Between Two Shores’ (2018), Glen Hansard completed his personal process of musical evolution, between new influences and personal events that shaped his songwriting ability. The last studio work before the album just released a few days ago, “ This Wild Willing ”, received acclaim from Italian and international critics, combining originality and simplicity and expressing the new artistic direction undertaken by Hansard , between innovation, invention and experimentation.
