But this isn’t any ordinary remastered album. This is a body of work fully reimagined for the magic of Dolby Atmos immersive spatial audio. Mixed by David Kosten, Steve Wilson and Jarre himself, the reissue of Oxygene is the first project released under Distant Swimmer, a new immersive spatial audio collaboration between the veteran producers.
The album was originally recorded in 1976 in a small kitchen at his home in France. Jarre’s visionary use of synthesizers and other analogue instruments made it an avant-garde masterpiece ahead of its time. Fast forward to 2026, and Jarre’s body of work continues to be an alpha in the influence of today’s biggest electronic artists.
“Almost fifty years later it still sounds like it belongs to no particular year, because it was never built on a trend,” said Bosnian-German DJ Solomun of Oxygene. “It was built on curiosity, on restraint, on a very clear idea of what it wanted to be: something new!”
Oxygene‘s 50th anniversary edition is set to contain a collector’s set full of mixed media honoring the album, as well as a mastered and cut version from engineer Michael Showell from the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London. The reissue will be available in exclusively cut vinyl, CD, digital, and Blu-ray formats.

Jean Michel-Jarre will also be this year’s guest of honor at Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). He will be performing a spatial audio experience called “Oxygène & Beyond: A Sonic Journey Celebrating 30 Years of ADE” on Wednesday, October 21. Presented by MOJO and Insomniac, Jarre’s participation in this year’s ADE will also include an intimate keynote interview.
He also plans to publish Machines: A History of Electronic Music on November 24. The photobook showcases his historic collection of electronic and electro-acoustic instruments, as well as the evolutionary methods of artificial intelligence in music. Its pages feature contributors like Richie Hawtin, Armin Van Buuren, Hans Zimmer, and Gary Numan.
Oxygene‘s 50th anniversary remaster is set to be released November 20.
