The people sure are \u201cBeggin’\u201d for more M\u00e5neskin<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Italian rockers\u2019 cover of the Four Seasons<\/strong> song has been one of the biggest rock hits of 2021 \u2014 it\u2019s this year\u2019s longest-running number-one single on Billboard<\/em>\u2018s Alternative Airplay chart, having led the ranking for 10 weeks and counting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking with ABC Audio, bassist Victoria De Angelis<\/strong> ponders what keeps the fans beggin\u2019 for \u201cBeggin\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think maybe just the way we reinterpreted it and we made it like it was our own song,\u201d De Angelis says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe tried to not think about the original, and just felt free to change it however we liked,\u201d she adds. \u201cI think this shines through the song.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you were lucky enough to catch one of M\u00e5neskin\u2019s sold-out, debut U.S. headlining shows in New York City and Los Angeles over the fall, you would\u2019ve also heard one of the band\u2019s other covers: a mash-up of Franz Ferdinand<\/strong>\u2018s \u201cTake Me Out\u201d and The Killers<\/strong>\u2018 \u201cSomebody Told Me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s fun to give different interpretations to a song that already exists,\u201d De Angelis says of M\u00e5neskin\u2019s penchant for covers. \u201cIt\u2019s just a way of sharing the music.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course, M\u00e5neskin writes originals, too. Their latest single, \u201cMAMMAMIA,\u201d is very much not a cover of the ABBA<\/strong> song, though judging by its video\u2019s over 14 million YouTube<\/a> views, it\u2019s following in the viral footsteps of \u201cBeggin.’\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe couldn\u2019t wait to release new music with all of this big new audience that we have,\u201d De Angelis says of premiering \u201cMAMMAMIA.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOf course, it\u2019s the most important thing for us to share the music that we\u2019re writing,\u201d she continues. \u201cSo every time that we release a song, it\u2019s a very, very important moment.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
