Anamar\u00eda Tijoux Merino<\/strong> (French: <\/small>[ti\u0292u]<\/a>; born 12 June 1977), commonly known by her stage name Ana Tijoux<\/strong> or Anita Tijoux<\/strong>, is a Chilean-French singer and musician. She became famous in Latin America as the MC<\/a> of hip-hop<\/a> group Makiza<\/a> during the late 1990s. In 2006, she crossed over to the mainstream of Latin pop<\/a> after her collaboration with Mexican songstress Julieta Venegas<\/a> in the radio hit “Eres para m\u00ed<\/a>“. Tijoux has often been praised for “exploring sensitive matters devoid of violence.”[1]<\/a><\/sup> She gained more widespread recognition following her second solo album, 1977<\/em>, and later with La bala<\/a><\/em> (2011) and Vengo<\/a><\/em> (2014) which brought her a Best Artist of the year<\/em> award in the 2015’s Premios Pulsar<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tijoux is the daughter of Chilean parents living in political exile in France during Augusto Pinochet<\/a>‘s dictatorship<\/a> in Chile.[<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This song was released by Chilean rapper Ana Tijoux<\/u><\/a> to honor the dead, specifically those lost during the Pinochet dictatorship. The title, “Calaveritas,” means “little skulls,” and it’s full of loving messages for those whose lives were lost. Recorded with Mexican musician Celso Pi\u00f1a, it’s a blend of traditional, folk, and experimental sounds with a powerful message. “We all carry within us \/ one who died before us \/ who appears when night falls and the sun goes out,” read some of the lyrics. It also includes a quote from a revolutionary named Pierre Dubois who opposed Pinochet during his regime: “It is not enough to say that justice takes time but it arrives. Justice that is not exercised when appropriate is already unfair.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
