La\u010dni Franz<\/strong> (meaning Hungry Franz<\/em>) is a rock<\/a> band from Slovenia<\/a> that was also popular in the 1980s in Yugoslavia. While they were inspired by another Slovenian radical band Buldo\u017eer<\/a> known for utilizing sheer madness in the social and political satire, their lyrics are more self-ironic. The band was formed in Maribor<\/a> in June 1979. Their name, meaning Hungry Franz<\/em>, is a pun on the name of a character from the novel Catch-22<\/a>, Hungry Joe<\/a>, and describes a hunger for rock music.[1]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band’s music and attitude were in a sense laid back, and they portrayed themselves as a local band from a provincial town. Zoran Predin<\/a>‘s lyrics ranged from disturbing ballads<\/a> (Ne mi dihat za ovratnik<\/a>, Lipa zelenela je<\/a>), through love songs (\u010cakaj me<\/a>, Naj ti poljub nari\u0161e ustnice<\/a>), to social and political satire (Praslovan<\/a>, Na\u0161a Lidija je pri vojakih<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The key band members were frontman and songwriter Zoran Predin<\/a>, and guitarist Oto Rimele<\/a>. The band had the most creative success towards the end of the 1980s, with classical albums such as Ikebana<\/a>, Adijo pamet<\/a>, Ne mi dihat za ovratnik, and Na svoji strani<\/a> (the last one made with the original crew). Their last studio album was released in 1994. La\u010dni Franz officially ceased to exist in 1997 after a series of compilation albums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zoran Predin<\/a> continued a solo career after the Franz disbanded. Many of the band’s hits, such as Praslovan, Bog nima telefona<\/a>, Vaterpolist<\/a>, Ne mi dihat za ovratnik, \u010cakaj me and Naj ti poljub nari\u0161e ustnice<\/a>, have remained in his concert repertoire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The band briefly regathered in the winter of 2005 – 2006, and held a series of concerts in Slovenia,\u00a0Belgrade<\/a>, and\u00a0Zagreb<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
