Sílvia Perez Cruz has an independent heart that leads her to travel through Iberian and Latin American sounds. Vestida de Nit is the fourth album, in her own name, by the Catalan singer who, as seen in recent visits to this side of the Iberian border, has already won over the Portuguese public.
Virtuosity and inventiveness do not always go hand in hand without running over or canceling each other out. In Sílvia Pérez Cruz, born in Catalonia in 1983, more qualities come together: enthusiasm and freedom as a script.
Accompanied by a remarkable and original string quintet, she manages to create a style of her own, from beginning to end. And this style, incredible as it may seem, communicates with the same proximity and authenticity with genres with such a strong identity as fado, Brazilian popular music, flamenco and other Latin American and Spanish traditions. Sílvia is one of those rare singers who immediately leave us with the impression that they can do exactly what they want with their voice. And it impresses her to realize that one of her strongest weapons is containment and not the display of her technical skills – but there is no doubt: she knows how to take them to the maximum when she wants to. After many collaborations, Vestida de Nit is her fourth album under her own name (one of them, the previous one, Domus , was the soundtrack to the filmCerca de tu Casa , which won him a Goya prize). It is inhabited by all its references, whether they are from Venezuela (the magnificent Tonada de Luna Llena , by Simón Díaz, opening), Peru, Brazil (Sílvia ventures, without fear and with good results, to sing in Portuguese and presents, for example, a remarkable version of the famous Lambada , here almost unrecognizable but beautiful, in a slow rhythm), from Portugal (a version of Estranha Forma de Vida , with a Spanish accent, not for everyone…) and , of course, from the various Spains.
