Gaga wrote several of her best songs for her 2018 film A Star Is Born. Everyone knows “Shallow,” which was an international smash hit that sold more than 10 million units worldwide. However, The Music Man has to say that the ballad “I’ll Never Love Again” is also among Gaga’s greatest songwriting efforts.
Gaga co-wrote “I’ll Never Love Again” with Natalie Hemby, Hillary Lindsey, and Aaron Raitiere, and co-produced it with Benjamin Rice. The lyrics address grief and an unwillingness to move on after the loss of a lover, which directly correlate to events in the storyline of A Star Is Born.
When Kimberly Fransens put her heavenly voice to work singing “I’ll Never Love Again”, many Lady Gaga fans couldn’t help but cry. The piano ballad from A Star Is Born is one of Gaga’s most heartfelt songs, and Fransens channeled the emotions of the song so powerfully. With that mix of sky-high falsetto and powerful high-range belting, it’s an incredibly difficult song to sing. Fransens is just built different though, and weaved through the melodies of the song with a passionate and skillful performance.
